What are the usual working hours?
Department hours are 9am - 7pm and the first year resident is on call for usg with two seniors second on call for queries.

How frequent are the night duties? Do you have post duty “off’’?
No post duty off . Primary candidate is on emergency on call duty after department working hours. So it becomes a bit hectic but at the same time in the longer run gives confidence .

What work you do as a Ist, IInd and IIIrd year resident?
First year resident learns ultrasound in the department with senior and consultants then attends emergency calls with seniors until he/ she gains enough confidence to attend alone.
After 6-8 months , rotation starts with 3-3 months of posting in usg and CT/MRI with in between xray reporting for a month .
Second year resident shares his duties with another secondary candidate . 3- 3 month rotatory posting in usg and ct/mri , and xray postings according to rotation . In ct/ mri posting 15 days a month one of them is on call (emergency ) .
Final year residents supervise the work of juniors along with reporting of cases in ct and mri and help juniors in usg .
Any useless work you have to do?
No useless work except once in 2 years when paperwork and inspection occurs - just to help in checking the details and records carefully . Department technologist are always available .

What are the different modalities and machines available?
a - xray - cr system (approx 70-90 xrays a day )

B-three good quality usg machines philips and ge and one portable machine for emergency icu calls . Avg - 50-60 scans a day and 4-5 emergency calls .
C- elastography is available
D- mammo machine is not available .
E- 64 slice ct from seimens . Avg ct/ mri scans in a day is approx 25-40 scans
F- 3T mri from philips (ingenia )
Mrcp / msk / abdomen are being done in the department .
G- usg and ct guided procedures are performed very frequently ( thoracocentesis/ ascitic tap/ biopsies / abscess drainage etc etc) . Vascular intervention was frequently performed but concultant left a year ago and hopefully it may start whenever somebody joins .first year resident usually is able to perform routine procedures after few months and second and third year residents depending on their interest and skills perform pigtail insertion, ct guided biopsies etc .
How much is the stipend?
stipend 53000/- per month for first year and every year there is increment of 2000/- rupees

Because of less number of residents and hectic duty hours the presentations are variable . Usually 2-3 rd year residents present case or differentials and sometimes solve spotters from those available on internet .

Acomodation is in hospital itself 9th floor for resident doctors . Twin sharing room .good conditions . Allowed to stay outside provided the duties are not hampered .

You have anything to say about indore?
Indore is a very good city , awesome food , the hospital is located in the heart of city , nearby available all sort of things be it good restaurants, malls etc . People are very friendly and helpful .Climate is very pleasant and never in extremes . Green and clean city !

The only drawback is less number of residency seats , had it been more in number then working hours , emergency calls , presentations and learning and everything i suppose would become better . And also no availability of mammography but its okay for a while we can always learn later after we are done with the pg and also from various teaching groups on internet .

Learning in a DNB hospital setup is a bit different. Resident seniors are the primary teachers and of course your own efforts and zeal to study the subject is the key factor . Good time management , learning from mistakes and follow up , hard work and guidance from seniors and consultants is all what is required for a good learning experience .
