DD-Marfan syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, neurofibromatosis, ankylosing spondylitis, and osteogenesis imperfecta tarda. It may occur as a very unusual complication of spinal surgery or trauma.
Dural ectasia is defined qualitatively as widening of the spinal canal, scalloping of the vertebral body posteriorly, increased thinning of the cortex of the pedicles and laminae, widening of the neural foramina, or the presence of a meningocele.Quantitatively, it is diagnosed when the dural sac ratio value is greater than the cutoff value. Dural sac ratio (DSR) is calculated at the midcorpus level of L1 through S1 by dividing the dural sac diameter(DSD) by vertebral body diameter(VBD).An abnormal DSR at either L3 or S1 can be used to identify Marfan syndrome with 95% sensitivity and 98% specificity.
